Festival Budaya Sekura Cakak Buah

The Sekura Cakak Buah Festival is an authentic cultural tradition of the Saibatin people in West Lampung Regency, held annually from the 1st to the 7th of Shawwal (following Eid al-Fitr) across more than 30 villages (pekon). The festival’s name represents its two core elements: Sekura, meaning mask, and Cakak Buah, referring to the traditional greased pole climbing (panjat pinang) that serves as the main attraction. The uniqueness of this festival lies in the appearance of two types of masks symbolizing the duality of life: Sekura Betik, whose neat and orderly appearance reflects goodness, and Sekura Kamak, whose frightening visage represents the darker side or chaos of existence. Beyond being a medium for post-Eid gatherings and communal cooperation, this festival—which features folk markets and local MSMEs—has become a strategic tourism asset and a cultural icon that serves as a proud pillar of West Lampung's identity.
