What Is Singhasari Museum?

Singhasari Museum is a historical museum officially listed in the Museum Registration system and part of the Museum Indonesia network. Located in Singosari, Malang Regency (East Java), this museum preserves and exhibits historical artifacts and relics associated with the ancient Singhasari or Tumapel Kingdom

Part educational venue and part cultural repository, the museum helps visitors understand the rich legacy of Javanese history and cultural heritage.

The museum is owned by the Malang Regency Government and managed by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Malang Regency. The management is responsible for collection preservation, exhibitions, and educational engagement with the public. 

 

History of the Museum

Singhasari Museum was inaugurated on May 20, 2015 on land donated by the developers of Singhasari Residence. Its establishment aimed to safeguard historical objects linked to the Singhasari Kingdom while promoting cultural tourism and education. 

The museum provides an accessible window into the legacy of the Singhasari Kingdom, which flourished in East Java in the 13th century and preceded the rise of Majapahit. 

 

Museum Collections

Singhasari Museum’s museum collections include a rich variety of historical artifacts:

  • Statues and relics such as Bhairawa, Durga, Ganesha, Mahakala, and Nandi
  • Models representing famous temple structures like Singosari Temple and others
  • Traditional weapons, ancient household tools, and cultural items that help illustrate daily life in the past. 

Some items are replicas, as many original artifacts remain housed in international institutions.
