In 1967, it was renamed Museum Banjar. The development of Museum Lambung Mangkurat commenced gradually in 1974 through the Kalimantan Museum Rehabilitation and Expansion Project. The museum stands on a 1.5-hectare land grant from the provincial government and was officially inaugurated on January 10, 1979, by Minister of Education and Culture Dr. Daoed Joesoef.
