The Basoeki Abdullah Museum is an art museum dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the works and personal belongings of Basoeki Abdullah (1915–1993), one of Indonesia’s most important 20th-century painters. The museum’s mission is to showcase his paintings, documents, books, and cultural objects that illustrate the rich artistic traditions and personal vision of this maestro.

The museum is owned by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia and managed by Museum and Cultural Heritage Units under the Directorate General of Cultural Protection and Traditions. Its responsibility includes conservation, exhibitions, educational programming, and public services aligned with national museum standards. 

 

History of the Museum

The museum’s origins lie in the personal wish of Basoeki Abdullah himself. After his death in 1993, his family donated his home and artistic collection to the Indonesian Government, which renovated it for public use. On 25 September 2001, the museum was officially opened by the Culture and Tourism Minister Drs. I Gede Ardika. Later, an expansion building was inaugurated on 29 November 2016 to accommodate more exhibits and visitors.
