The Baiturrahman Grand Mosque is the iconic spiritual and cultural heart of Banda Aceh. Originally built in the 17th century during the reign of Sultan Iskandar Muda, the current structure features a magnificent Mughal-revival style with seven black domes and eight minarets. It stands as a profound symbol of the Acehnese people's resilience, having survived the devastating 2004 tsunami with only minor damage, and famously serving as a temporary shelter for survivors.
