Festival Iraw Tengkayu
Iraw Tengkayu is a cultural sea festival of the Tidung tribe in Tarakan, celebrated as a symbol of gratitude for the ocean’s blessings. Its highlight is the ceremonial release of Padaw Tuju Dulung, a seven-prow boat representing prayer, hope, and the life cycle of local fishermen. The festival features traditional dances such as Beselimpung and Jepin Pergaulan, along with a vibrant decorated boat parade and active public participation. Iraw Tengkayu stands as a unique maritime cultural attraction and a signature tourism event in North Kalimantan.
