Datu Sanggul, whose real name was Sheikh Muhammad Abdussamad Sirajul Huda, was a prominent cleric and preacher in South Kalimantan who lived at the same time as Sheikh Muhammad Arsyad al-Banjari (Datu Kelampayan). He was known for his simplicity, knowledge, and closeness to God, and was believed by the community to possess karamah (nobleness) for being able to perform Friday prayers at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
