History of the Museum

Originally envisioned as a railway museum, the Transportation Museum expanded its scope to cover all transport modes. The cornerstone was laid by Ibu Tien Soeharto on 14 February 1984, followed by construction in 1985. It was officially opened by President Soeharto on 20 April 1991 to collect, preserve, research, and exhibit transportation history and its significance to Indonesia’s development.

Recent revitalization efforts aim to modernize its exhibitions and visitor experience while still serving as an educational hub.
