Established to preserve the legacy of Raden Ajeng Kartini, a national heroine well-known for her advocacy of women’s rights and education, this museum serves as an educational and cultural site that showcases artifacts and personal belongings of Kartini.

The museum was originally founded on April 21, 1967 as the Museum of Kartini’s Devoted Chamber, created on the initiative of the then Regent of Rembang, Drs. Adnan Widodo, to honor Kartini’s legacy. It began as a small room where Kartini lived and wrote while married to R.M.A.A. Djojoadiningrat, the Regent of Rembang.

Over time, the museum expanded into a larger cultural complex featuring numerous artifacts and historical displays related to Kartini’s life, work, and family. It is situated at Jalan Gatot Subroto No. 08, Rembang, and remains a key historical site in the region.

The architecture combines Javanese and colonial design elements, including a large front pavilion and European-style columns made from lime and sand mix.
