Museum Sulawesi Tengah is owned by the Government of Central Sulawesi Province and managed by the Department of Culture of Central Sulawesi Province, ensuring professional and sustainable cultural stewardship.

History of Museum Sulawesi Tengah

The establishment of the museum was initiated by Masyhudin Masyhuda, a cultural advocate who presented his vision in a paper titled Perspective on the Development of the Central Sulawesi Museum at the National Museum in Jakarta in 1975.

With support from the provincial government, cultural artifacts were collected and preserved. The physical construction of the museum began during REPELITA II (1977/1978) on a 18,330-square-meter site located on Kemiri Street No. 23, Palu. Since then, the museum has grown into a key institution for cultural and scientific documentation in Central Sulawesi.

Museum Collections and Highlights

Museum Sulawesi Tengah houses approximately 812 collections showcasing the region’s cultural diversity and natural wealth. Highlights include traditional jewelry, household tools, ceremonial objects, and a remarkable range of geological specimens such as quartzite, diorite, serpentine, sandstone, and petrified wood fossils.

These collections provide insight into Central Sulawesi’s ancient environment, technological development, and cultural traditions.
