Regional Museum of Lumajang Regency

The Regional Museum of Lumajang Regency is a general museum located in Lumajang Regency, East Java, Indonesia. Officially registered in the National Museum registry with number 35.08.U.04.0251, it is part of the Museum Indonesia network, tasked with preserving cultural heritage, supporting public education, and sharing local history. 

The museum serves as a cultural repository for historical objects and artifacts that illustrate the social and cultural evolution of Lumajang society. 

 

Type & Classification

It is classified as a Type C General Museum, signifying a broad scope of collections encompassing history, culture, and archaeological evidence rather than focusing on a narrow specialty. 

 

History of the Museum

The museum was established by the Government of Lumajang Regency and inaugurated by Regent Drs. H. As’at Malik, M.Ag. on August 24, 2015, marked by a collaborative exhibition with several members of the East Java Regional Museum Association. 

It functions as a museum and cultural space designed to safeguard local heritage, provide educational experiences about the past, and offer historical context for residents and visitors. 

 

Management

The museum is owned by the Lumajang Regency Government and managed by the Department of Education and Culture of Lumajang Regency through the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT). This agency oversees the collection’s preservation, public exhibitions, educational outreach, and cultural activities. 

 

Museum Collections

The Regional Museum of Lumajang Regency displays around 75 collections of historical and cultural artifacts, including: 

  • Ancient carved stones with Surya motifs
  • Pasrujambe inscriptions and replicas
  • Historical manuscripts
  • Archaeological replicas such as Arcapada figures
  • Traditional musical instruments
  • Cultural artifacts representing the artistic legacy of Lumajang

These displays offer visitors insights into the deep history of Lumajang society and the region’s cultural evolution.

Vision: To become a symbol of the development of civilization and identity for the people of Lumajang, with a strong cultural heritage institution that resonates in contemporary life. 

Mission: The museum’s mission includes: 

  1. Preserving Cultural Heritage Objects through proper conservation and protection.
  2. Providing cultural education and recreational experiences for both locals and visitors.

Acting as an information hub for knowledge about local history and culture.
