The history of Museum Le Mayeur is closely tied to the life journey of Adrien Jean Le Mayeur in Bali. His artistic career in Bali began after meeting Ni Pollok, a royal legong dancer, who became his main model for approximately three years.
His paintings were later exhibited in Singapore, receiving positive acclaim and international recognition. After returning to Bali, Le Mayeur purchased land along Sanur Beach and built a house where he continued painting.
In 1935, Le Mayeur married Ni Nyoman Pollok. Their home gradually transformed into a space filled with paintings and artistic collections. In 1956, Bahder Djohan, then Minister of Education, Teaching, and Culture, visited the house and proposed converting it into a museum.
On August 28, 1957, Le Mayeur officially granted the house to Ni Nyoman Pollok, who later donated the property and its contents to the Government of Indonesia to be established as a museum.
