Historical Background of Museum Daerah Kabupaten Sambas

The museum was established as a replacement for the former Sambas Struggle Museum, whose building was returned to its heirs. To preserve the collections, a new museum was created using a historic building that once served as the Dutch Vice Resident’s office, built in 1881.

After independence, the building functioned as various official residences and offices, including the Regent’s residence, before being partially converted into the current museum.

Museum Daerah Kabupaten Sambas is a general museum (Type B) owned by the Government of Sambas Regency and managed by the Department of Education and Culture of Sambas Regency. It is officially registered with the National Museum Registration Number (NPNM) 61.01.U.04.0065.

As a general museum, it presents diverse collections covering royal history, traditional customs, local struggles, and colonial influences in Sambas.

Museum’s Collections

The museum houses around 60 collections, including royal cannons, swords, spears, traditional wedding attire, royal insignia, old currency, keris, colonial weapons, and a replica of the royal throne. These artifacts reflect the glory and identity of the Sambas Sultanate.

Vision and Mission

The museum’s vision is to empower museums for the benefit of humanity, nature, and the environment. Its mission includes providing excellent educational and cultural services, conducting quality museum research, and presenting collections that inspire appreciation, imagination, and innovation.
