Construction of Panji Museum began in 2014, and the museum was officially inaugurated in 2016. It was established by the Inggil Malang Foundation as part of an effort to revive local cultural heritage and to support the nomination of the Panji Stories and Malangan Masks as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Through this museum, the historical and cultural values of Panji are not only preserved but also actively communicated to the public.

Panji Museum Collections

Panji Museum houses approximately 25 collections representing the richness of Malang’s cultural and historical heritage. These collections include various types of wayang, such as Wayang Golek Menak, Wayang Tengger, Wayang Purwa, Wayang Debog, and Wayang Kaca.

In addition, the museum displays the Malangan Bapang Mask, an iconic element of Malang’s traditional performing arts. Other collections include a buffalo horn fossil, the Qur’an and a Qur’an reading table, Kanjuruhan pottery, a portrait of Regent Syarif, as well as wooden artifacts and relics from the era of ancient kingdoms.
