Museum Universitas Pelita Harapan (MUPH) is a university-based fine arts museum officially registered in the Museum Nasional registry of Indonesia under registration number 36.71.K.06.0026, and forms part of the broader Museum Indonesia network. Located in Lippo Village, Karawaci, Tangerang, it serves as a hub for cultural preservation, education, and artistic exploration. 

Owned by the Universitas Pelita Harapan Foundation, MUPH brings together artistic heritage, academic inquiry, and cultural expression within its galleries and research programs.

  • Category: Special Museum — dedicated to fine arts and visual culture. 
  • Type: Type C Museum — supporting regional museum functions while adhering to national standards of museology. 

MUPH goes beyond being a display space, integrating education and interpretation into its exhibitions and academic activities. 

 

History of the Museum

Founded in 1993 with early efforts to collect artworks, MUPH began by building an extensive collection of paintings, sketches, and sculptures. 

Since June 2015, the museum has occupied Gedung C (Paddock) on the UPH campus, supporting student learning and community engagement. 

In 2025, it gained official recognition as part of Museum Nasional Indonesia, strengthening its role in cultural heritage stewardship. 

 

Collections of the Museum

MUPH’s collection includes over 3,500 works spanning:
• Classical Indonesian artists (including works associated with Raden Saleh)
Mooi Indie painters from the colonial period
• Works by Persatuan Ahli-Ahli Gambar Indonesia (Persagi)
• Modern and contemporary Indonesian artists
• A comprehensive reference library on Indonesian and world art 

These collections make MUPH a vital resource for artists, scholars, and visitors interested in Indonesia’s artistic evolution.
