Festival Perang Topat

About the Event

Perang Topat (Rice Cake War) is a tradition in Lombok that upholds interfaith harmony between two ethnic groups and religions: the Sasak people who follow Islam and the Balinese who practice Hinduism. This event portrays the peaceful coexistence of residents by engaging in a friendly “topat” (rice cake) throwing ritual without any tension or confrontation. Perang Topat has been nationally recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage (Warisan Budaya Tak Benda, WBTB) since 2020.

Held annually since the era of the Anak Agung Ngurah Karang Asem Kingdom and the spread of Islam in Lombok, the tradition continues to reflect religious harmony during both religious rituals and the Perang Topat event. The location remains unchanged each year, taking place at Lingsar Park in West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara.
