History of the Museum

The Banggai Laut Regional Museum was officially established through a Regent’s Decree on March 22, 2024, and inaugurated on July 22, 2024 at the historic Keraton Banggai in Lompio. This opening ceremony brought together regional leaders, community figures, and cultural advocates who supported the preservation of local heritage.

The museum was created to secure and organize historical relics that were scattered among private collections and community holdings. Its establishment marked a major step in ensuring that the history and legacy of Banggai Laut are preserved and shared with future generations.

Located initially within the historic Keraton (palace), which holds deep cultural significance, the museum aims to provide an immediate connection between visitors and the ancient traditions of the Banggai people.

The museum’s national recognition also grew when it was selected as one of the National Museum Certificate recipients at the 2025 Indonesian Museum Day Celebration, highlighting its role in preserving culture at both regional and national levels.
