Don't Say You've Been to Kaki Langit Tourism Village Before Trying These 4 Local Delicacies!

As a tourist city, almost every destination in Yogyakarta offers a complete range of tourism experiences, from attractions to food. One of these is Kaki Langit Tourism Village.

Located in Dusun Cempuk, Desa Mangunan, Dlingo, Bantul, this village offers a variety of interesting activities, such as watching traditional arts performances like Gejog Lesung and Tari Gambyong. In addition to these art performances, Kaki Langit Tourism Village also offers a wide range of delicious local dishes that are sure to tempt your taste buds. Here are the must-try dishes when visiting Kaki Langit Tourism Village!

  1. Jadah Tempe

Fans of tempe and tahu bacem will definitely be drawn to this special dish from Yogyakarta, called jadah tempe. Jadah tempe is a combination of two foods: jadah, which is made from glutinous rice, and tempe or tahu (fermented soybeans or tofu), which is cooked with a sweet-spicy marinade called bacem.

The savory taste of the glutinous rice combined with the bacem tempe or tahu makes jadah tempe popular among both locals and tourists. It’s even more delicious when paired with raw chili peppers. The unique way of eating it is by stacking the jadah and tempe together and eating them like a burger.

  1. Lotek
    lotek
Lotek is similar to gado-gado. Its peanut sauce is made from ground peanuts mixed with other ingredients like garlic, kencur, palm sugar, raw chili, tamarind water, and a little sweet soy sauce. This mixture creates a distinctive aroma with a sweet, savory, and delicious flavor.

The ground peanut sauce is then mixed with rice cakes or lontong and boiled vegetables such as spinach, long beans, bean sprouts, cabbage (raw), and cucumber. It’s topped with fried fritters, fried shallots, celery, and crackers as a garnish.

  1. Tiwul

Another dish you must try is tiwul. This food is quite familiar in Indonesian society, especially in Java, where tiwul is used as a staple food to replace rice.

Tiwul is made from dried cassava known as gaplek. Before being cooked, gaplek is ground until fine, then steamed until cooked.

Tiwul can be enjoyed with other side dishes like salted fish, tempe bacem, and spinach. It can also be eaten as a snack, served with palm sugar syrup and grated coconut. Other additional toppings like black glutinous rice, boiled corn, or boiled peanuts can also be added.

  1. Gudeg Manggar

A trip to Yogyakarta wouldn’t be complete without trying gudeg, and similarly, visiting Kaki Langit Tourism Village wouldn’t be complete without tasting their special gudeg manggar. While traditional gudeg is made with young jackfruit, gudeg manggar is made with the young coconut flower buds.

Gudeg manggar has a sweet taste like regular gudeg but is served with side dishes like tempe bacem, eggs, and sambal goreng krecek (fried beef skin). Some versions also include chicken bones and skin, which adds a savory flavor to the dish.

These are just a few of the must-try foods when visiting Kaki Langit Tourism Village. Before your visit, make sure you’ve been vaccinated, downloaded the PeduliLindungi app, and always follow health protocols by applying the 6M guidelines: wearing a mask properly, washing hands with soap, maintaining distance, avoiding crowds, limiting mobility, and avoiding eating together.
