Informations

Nyadran

Nyadran is a tradition of visiting ancestral graves performed before the month of Ramadan. In Jakarta, especially among communities with Javanese cultural roots, this tradition is carried out as an act of respect for ancestors. The Nyadran procession involves collective prayers and cleaning the family graves. This tradition teaches values of togetherness and reverence for those who came before.

Despite Jakarta’s rapid modernisation, Nyadran remains an important part of life for many families. People gather to perform this ritual before entering the holy month. The cultural values embedded in Nyadran continue to be passed down from one generation to the next, allowing this tradition to endure even as times change.
