Masjid Tuo Kayu Jao

The Tuo Kayu Jao Mosque, located in Nagari Batang Barus, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, is one of the oldest mosques in Indonesia. It was likely founded in the late 16th century (circa 1599) by community leaders Angku Masyhur (imam) and Angku Labai (bilal) as a center for Islamic preaching and a symbol of the spread of Islam in the Minangkabau region. Its architecture is a blend of Islamic and Minangkabau cultural styles.
