The gateway to Pura Besakih, Bali’s sacred mountain and an active stratovolcano, is a must-visit. Homestays and local eateries are available for hikers. There are three main hiking routes: Pura Pasar Agung Route: The fastest and most popular route, starting from Pura Pasar Agung on the southern side. The hike takes about 3-4 hours to reach the southern crater peak (2,907m). The trail is steep with volcanic rocks. Besakih Route: The longest and toughest route, starting from Pura Besakih, the largest temple complex in Bali. It takes 6-7 hours to reach the highest peak (3,142m), passing through forests and rocky terrain. Budakeling Route: An alternative starting from Budakeling Village on the western side. This route is less popular and offers a challenging trail.
