From its inception, the gallery has not only exhibited visual art but also served as a center for discussions, performances, poetry readings, video art screenings, and various other cultural activities.Toeti Heraty’s commitment to human values and social justice forms the philosophical foundation of every program hosted at the gallery.Vision and Mission: Art as a Medium for Social DialogueCemara 6 Gallery envisions art as a tool for reflection, free expression, and dialogue between individuals and society. The gallery emphasizes the interconnectedness of art with human rights, culture, and the human capacity to communicate ideas creatively. Through thematic exhibitions, discussion forums, and cross-cultural collaborations, Cemara 6 strives to reach a wide audience and voice important issues through artistic exploration.Uniqueness and Permanent CollectionBeyond being an exhibition space, the gallery houses an invaluable private collection accumulated by its founder over decades. The permanent collection features more than 60 works by prominent Indonesian artists such as Affandi, Basoeki Abdullah, S. Soedjojono, Srihadi Soedarsono, Popo Iskandar, and Mochtar Apin.A special room is dedicated to around 50 works by Salim, an Indonesian painter who spent most of his life creating art in Paris. This collection has been exhibited in major museums, including institutions in the Netherlands and Japan.International Network and Global ContributionSince its founding, Cemara 6 has actively engaged in international art programs. In 1996, the gallery coordinated the Indonesian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale and facilitated an Indonesia–Netherlands cultural exchange program at Erasmus University Rotterdam. In subsequent years, it organized prestigious exhibitions such as Women in The Realm of Spirituality and Against Impunity, which highlighted human rights issues in Indonesia.Its long-standing global network underscores the gallery’s role as a bridge between Indonesian art and the international art world.
