Originally built as a traditional Muna house in 2017, the museum was inaugurated in December 2017 and later re-designated as a museum and cultural park through a regional government regulation in 2018.

It offers visitors insight into the way of life and cultural heritage of the Muna people, forming part of the broader network of museum collections in Indonesia.
