Makassar International Eight Festival & Forum 2017

 

Makassar, capital city of South Sulawesi Province will come alive with exciting activities and vibrant festivities when the Makassar International Eight Festival & Forum 2017 take a place on 6th to 10th September 2017 centered along the legendary Losari Beach. A truly spectacular fiesta, the event will feature 8 main highlights, aptly called the 8Fs, namely:Fashion, Film, Food & fruit, Folk, Flora & fauna, Fine arts, Fusion music, Fiction writers & font.

This is the 2nd edition of the event that was held successfully for the first time on 8th-10th September 2016. This year, Makassar International Eight Festival & Forum (MIEFFF) 2017 has taken the theme: "Honoring the Homeland" that will combine all 'Makassar's creativities that are deeply rooted in the indigenous culture and traditions to create an international scale festival.

The event has been constructed by 8 highly expert curators who came up with the latest concept of a global-scaled modern festival that embraces cultural diversity, presented on a spectacular stage with fascinating natural backdrop.

As a result, the event will feature 10 culinary icons; 100 participating districts and international countries; 1,000 musical performances; 10,000 cultural attractions; 100,000 art performances; and is aiming at a target of 1,000,000 visitors.
The Fashion Section will feature The Art of the Lontara, the Art of Batik Parang, the Sunset Catwalk, and Exotic Urban creations (when Traditional Meets Modern).

Among some of the country's top designers will showcase their masterpieces during the event among whom are: Luna Maya, Ferlita, Lenny Agustine, Erdan, Indonesia Chambers, Itank Yunasz, Poppy Dharsono, Malik Moestaram, Mel Ahyar, Defrico Audi, Sikie Purnomo, Ida Noer Haris, Hengki Kawilarang, Jenahara, Priyo, and The Association of Indonesian Fashion Designers (APPMI) South Sulawesi Branch.

Get ready to feast on some of Makassar's most scrumptious treats. The Food & Fruit Section will be highlighted with the Phinisi Dining Experience, Waterfront Cafes, Traditional Food Vaganza, Seaside marketplace, and Waterfront Food Festival. The Phinisi Dining experience offers you fine dining sensation aboard an actual Phinisi Ship docking on the waterfront of Losari. The waterfront Cafés highlight the many cafes along the Losari boulevard with all their mouthwatering presentations.

For those on the hunt for authentic Makassar culinary food can join the fiesta of the Traditional Food-Vaganza. The Seaside Marketplace will showcase a range of handicrafts and merchandises that you can bring home as lovely souvenirs, while the waterfront food festival will be highlighted with no less than 200 booths along the 1.3 Km beachfront at Losari Beach presenting a variety of delicious seafood, snacks, fresh fruits, and all sorts of Makassar's mouthwatering treasures.

Opening a wide door for writers and literary enthusiasts to express their creativity, the Fiction Writers and Font Section will feature a number of exciting programs including: Poetry Recital, Short Story Reading, Folk Stories Show, 'pantun' (Indonesian Rhyme art) reading, Poetry Musicalization, Monologue, Writing Competition themed " A Love letter for Makassar", Books exhibition and more.

History records that Indonesia's maestro painter Affandi once held a very successful Fine Arts exhibition here in Makassar between the years 1950 – 1960. Retracing the important milestone in the city's fine arts scene, MIEFF 2017 has invited the finest artisans from the city as well as across Indonesia and even from other countries to join in the Fine Arts Festivities.

Among the highlights of MIEFF 2017 Fine Arts section are: the huge 200 meters painting action for 5 consecutive days, Live Paintings by 50 painters, Body Painting, Paintings Exhibition, 3D art Installations, Sculptures and Murals installations, Fine Art Tourings around Lae-Lae Island and at the Leang Leang Cave.

The Folk section will unveil everything you need to know about the people of Makassar and all its intriguing splendors. This section will be highlighted with Folk Music Performances, Music & Performing Art Collaboration, Community Actions, Creative Engagement, Creative Games and Challenges, Folk Culinary Festival, and more.

After the success of last year's Jazz Fusion, this year, MIEFF returns with a wider spectrum of a Music Fusion by combining musical genres such as Jazz, Rock, Pop, Dangdut, and Keroncong onto one spectacular stage. Among some of Indonesia's and International top musicians in the line-up are: Daniel Sahuleka, Raisa, Ari lasso, Sheila on Seven, Daeng Serang, Ian Wiradz, Gilang Ramadhan, and more.

Last year, the spectacular fiesta successfully attracted 300,000 attendees, exceeding the initial target of 60,000. This year, the event has set a bold target of 1,000,000 attendees, which as expressed by the Minister of Tourism, Arief Yahya is very feasible.

Meanwhile, Deputy of National Marketing Development of the Ministry of Tourism, Esthy Reko Astuti explained the significance of Makassar for the development of national tourism. "South Sulawesi is one of the main pillars of tourism, and Makassar is at its center. Makassar is an important hub that connects tourists to the many and various wonders across Sulawesi as well as throughout the Eastern part of Indonesia. We are aiming to develop Makassar further with even wider sea interconnectivity," said Esthy Reko Astuti.
