The museum showcases military history related to the Siliwangi Division of the Indonesian Army and the broader struggle for independence. 

The name Mandala Wangsit translates to a “place that holds sacred mandates and messages,” while Siliwangi refers to the legendary Sundanese king known for his leadership — symbolizing the museum’s role in passing on historical lessons.

History of the Museum

Established on May 23, 1966, and inaugurated by Colonel Ibrahim Adjie, the museum is housed in a building originally constructed in the early 20th century as a Dutch military residence. After independence, the site became a key base for the Siliwangi Division before being converted into a museum to preserve historical legacy. 

The building underwent renovation in 1979, expanding exhibition space, and reopened in 1980 with formal recognition by military and national leadership. 

 

Management

The museum is owned by the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) and managed by Kodam III/Siliwangi, ensuring preservation and display of historical collections for public education. 

 

Museum Collection

Collections include traditional and modern weaponry, military uniforms, historical photographs, dioramas of key battles, documentation of various rebellions and military operations, as well as coins and colonial era artifacts. 

 

Vision & Mission

The museum’s implicit role includes preserving military heritage, educating the public — especially younger generations — about national history and valor, and providing a reflective space to honor the sacrifices and achievements of Indonesian fighters.
