What Is Betawi Museum?
The Betawi Museum is a special museum in South Jakarta dedicated to exhibiting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Betawi community in Indonesia. It is officially listed in the Museum Indonesia registration system with National Museum Registration Number 31.74.K.03.0285, making it part of Indonesia’s recognized national museums.
Located within the Setu Babakan Betawi Cultural Village, the museum serves as an educational cultural hub for both local residents and visitors interested in learning about the traditions, arts, and lifestyle of the Betawi people.
History of the Museum
Constructed between 2012 and 2015, the Betawi Museum was initially used as an office for the cultural village’s management. It officially opened to the public on July 30, 2017, during the 11th Betawi Lebaran celebration, with national dignitaries attending the event.
Originally, the museum displayed borrowed collections from other museums. Over subsequent years, exhibition space expanded to cover all three floors, allowing a full display of Betawi cultural artifacts. Since 2022, Betawi Museum has been officially registered under Indonesia’s national museum database.
