Not to be outdone by other provinces, Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta will now also stage the Tour de Jakarta on Saturday, 30 July.
Already Australia, the Netherlands, Thailand, the Philippines and New Zealand have confirmed sending their respective teams to Jakarta, joining the 10 Indonesian teams to race across Jakarta’s city tracks.
Starting at 7.00 hrs west Indonesia time to 11.00 hrs, racing along metropolitan Jakarta’s main Jalan Thamrin and Jalan Sudirman avenues, the Tour de Jakarta will cover 175 km. in 13 laps. An expected 1,000 foreign tourists will visit Jakarta to cheer their country’s team on, joining the almost 200,000 domestic visitors and Jakarta residents who will watch this most exciting race.
Jalan Thamrin and Jalan Sudirman are Jakarta’s main avenues, location of headquarters of large banks, government ministries, important business addresses, upscale malls and hotels The road leads to the National Museum and the Presidential Merdeka Palace.
Fully supported by the Ministry of Tourism, the Tour de Jakarta will match the thrills and challenges of Indonesia’s already well-known, internationally recognized cycling races like Tour de Singkarak of West Sumatra, the Tour de Flores in East Nusatenggara and Tour de Bintan in the Riau Islands.
