The establishment of Museum 1000 Moko began in 2003 as an initiative of the Alor Regency Government. It was officially inaugurated on May 4, 2004, by the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara, Piet A. Tallo.
The name “Museum 1000 Moko” symbolizes the abundance of moko in Alor and represents the region’s diverse cultural and natural potential, emphasizing the importance of preserving ancestral heritage for future generations.
Museum 1000 Moko is a specialized museum dedicated to preserving and exhibiting moko, bronze objects resembling small drums that hold social, cultural, and symbolic significance for the people of Alor. The museum is officially registered under the National Museum Registration Number (NPNM) 53.05.K.04.0173.
