Masjid Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman

The Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman Grand Mosque in Pontianak is the oldest and largest mosque in the city of Pontianak and also stands as a witness to the city’s founding in 1771. The mosque was built by Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman Alkadrie as part of the establishment of the Pontianak Sultanate on the banks of the Kapuas River. Starting as a simple structure, the mosque later underwent various phases of expansion under the sultan’s successors, eventually becoming both a center of worship and a historical landmark that reflects the early development of Islam and civilization in Pontianak.
