A Brief History of the Museum

The museum building was originally the private residence of General Nasution, constructed in 1923. It served as the family home during his tenure as Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army starting in 1949 until his passing on 6 September 2000. After the family relocated on 29 July 2008, the house was renovated and transformed into a museum.

The Museum of General of the Army Dr. A. H. Nasution was officially opened to the public on 3 December 2008, coinciding with the General’s birthday. The inauguration was carried out by the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. This marked the transformation of a private residence into a public educational space dedicated to national history.

Main Collections of the Museum

Several notable collections displayed at the Museum of General of the Army Dr. A. H. Nasution include a statue of General Nasution as a memorial of his lifelong struggle, dioramas depicting major historical events such as sessions of the Provisional People’s Consultative Assembly (MPRS) and the attempted kidnapping during the G30S/PKI incident, as well as family artifacts, photographs, weapons, and documentation of military activities.
