The museum was officially inaugurated on November 11, 2001, after the birthplace of Buya Hamka was restored and preserved to reflect its original form. Previously damaged during wartime, the house was rebuilt with support from local authorities to honor Buya Hamka’s life and legacy.

The collection includes personal belongings and artifacts that belonged to Buya Hamka, such as his bed, furniture, and a significant collection of books — including dozens of titles from his extensive literary works. Visitors can also view photographs and historical documents related to his life and impact.
