Jaipong

Jaipong is a traditional dance from West Java, created by Sundanese artist Gugum Gumbira in the 1970s. The dance often expresses joy, cheerfulness, and the lively spirit of the Sundanese people. Jaipong is known for its dynamic, energetic, and spirited movements, which frequently incorporate elements of pencak silat, ketuk tilu, and ronggeng dance traditions.

Jaipong has several unique features that distinguish it from other traditional dances. One of its key characteristics is its lively, agile choreography, accompanied by the signature sound of gamelan degung. The dance also has a distinct appeal due to its interactive nature—performers often invite the audience to join in, creating a festive and warm atmosphere. Jaipong continues to be celebrated both in Indonesia and internationally as an expression of Sundanese cultural identity.
