History of Museum Aceh

Museum Aceh was established on July 31, 1915, originally named Atjeh Museum. In its early years, the museum was led by F.W. Stammeshaus. The official inauguration and opening were conducted by Civil and Military Governor General H.N.A. Swart.

For more than a century, Museum Aceh has evolved into a major cultural institution that documents Aceh’s historical journey and cultural development.

Museum Aceh Collections

Museum Aceh houses 1,856 collections, representing various aspects of Acehnese culture and history. These include Islamic manuscripts such as Sabilal Mubtady li al-tafaqqah fi amr al-din and Safinatul Hukkam fi Takhlishlil Khasham, as well as cultural artifacts like betel lime containers, knives, necklaces, gramophones, drums, stone bases, and traditional oil lamps.

These collections illustrate the intellectual, artistic, and social life of Acehnese society across different historical periods.
