Indonesian Batik Museum

In 2009, batik was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. This recognition was not only due to the unique technique of decorating cloth and the beauty of its motifs, but also because of the cultural values and philosophical meanings embedded in every piece of batik cloth that are closely related to the cycle of life of Indonesian people.

The Indonesian Batik Museum plays a crucial role in a continued effort to support a more sustainable batik ecosystem. Indonesian Batik Museum serves as a pivotal point in strengthening efforts to provide a means to communicate the knowledge about batik in the nation, and providing the general public with a deeper understanding of batik. IHA is committed to improve the museum’s quality of service to the public, preservation of Batik through private or community collaborations that share the same goal. Indonesian Batik Museum has the function of accommodating various circles to even learn the making of Batik.
