The Pukul Sapu Lidi tradition in Negeri Morella is an annual event held every 7th of Shawwal (seven days after Eid al-Fitr) as a symbol of the struggle against colonial invaders. In this heroic display of spirit, young men strike one another with palm-leaf brooms until they bleed, a ritual meant to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood. Often referred to as 'Palasa' or 'Baku Pukul Menyapu', this cultural heritage has been preserved since the 17th century.
