Festival Semarapura 7

The Semarapura Festival is held to celebrate the founding day of the city of Semarapura and to commemorate the Puputan Klungkung, which was the climax of the desperate battle of the Klungkung Kingdom against Dutch colonialism in 1908 to defend independence. Klungkung is also the oldest kingdom in Bali and became the center of the growth of the arts. The logo of the Semarapura Festival is the Kayonan, a mountain-like structure found in traditional Javanese shadow puppet performances (wayang). Kayonan is considered the beginning or the starting point of a story.
