Karaton Ngayogyakarta

Karaton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat, or the Yogyakarta Palace, is the official residence of the Sultan of Yogyakarta. Established in 1755 by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I, the palace serves as a cultural hub for Javanese heritage, combining history, tradition, and spirituality. To this day, the palace remains the Sultan’s residence and the center of cultural activities in Yogyakarta. Visitors are advised to dress modestly when visiting this sacred site.

Jl. Rotowijayan Blok No.1, Panembahan, Kraton District, Yogyakarta City, Special Region of Yogyakarta. It is centrally located near the North Alun-Alun Square.

How to Get There 
- By Air: Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) serves as the main gateway. From the airport, you can take a taxi, ride-hailing services, or shuttle buses to the city center.
- By Land: The Yogyakarta Palace is easily accessible by private vehicles, traditional rickshaws (becak), or horse-drawn carriages (andong). For public transport, TransJogja buses stop near Malioboro, the closest landmark.

Uniqueness
- Classical Javanese Architecture: The palace showcases traditional Javanese architecture with intricate wood carvings, spatial layout, and cosmological philosophy.
- Cultural Activities: Regular cultural events, such as traditional ceremonies, classical dance performances, gamelan music, and manuscript readings, are held at the palace.
- Javanese Cultural Center: The palace plays a key role in preserving Javanese arts, traditions, and public education.

Collections
The Kedhaton area, a section of the palace, is partially open to the public. Key attractions include:
- Keraton Museum: Displays royal collections such as heirlooms, traditional costumes, and royal carriages. Highlights include the Batik Museum, Carriage Museum, and Sultan HB IX Museum.
- Bangsal Kencono (Golden Hall): The main hall used for significant royal events and ceremonies, showcasing exquisite Javanese classical architecture.
- Kamandungan Lor: One of the main gateways to Kedhaton, often used for welcoming royal guests.

Facilities
Visitors can enjoy parking areas, restrooms, an information center, souvenir shops, and guided tours.
