History of the Museum

The Bukuran Cluster Museum was established around 2014 as part of the development of museum facilities within the Sangiran Early Man Site, itself recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 due to its global importance for prehistoric research and fossil evidence. 

The Sangiran area has yielded numerous Homo erectus fossils and remains, making it a leading location for understanding early human evolution and distributing knowledge to global audiences.

This institution is categorized as a Special Museum, focusing specifically on paleoanthropology and human evolutionary science, curated by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia

 

Museum Management

The museum is owned by the Ministry of Culture and managed by the Museum and Cultural Heritage unit, tasked with conservation, exhibit planning, and educational programming to foster public interest in human origins and prehistoric life.
