Fort Marlborough

Fort Marlborough is a British legacy fort in Bengkulu City. This fort was built by the EastIndia Company (EIC) from 1714 to 1719 as a British defense fort. Fort Marlborough continued to function as a defense fort until the Dutch East Indies period from 1825 to 1942, the Japanese period from 1942 to 1945, and during the Indonesian independence war. After the Dutch left Indonesia in 1950, Fort Marlborough became the headquarters of the Indonesian Army. In 1977, this fort was handed over to the Department of Education and Culture to be renovated and turned into a cultural heritage building. The fort building, standing on an area of 44,400 m², is now used as a tourist attraction with exhibition spaces, audiovisual facilities, gardens, and offices.
