History of the Museum

The museum’s foundation began in 1977/1978 with funding from the Pelita Cultural Project. Initially, its development was overseen by the regional office of the Department of Education and Culture.

On January 9, 1991, the museum was officially recognized as a Unit Pelaksana Teknis under the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. Following regional autonomy reforms, its management shifted to the provincial government and it became a UPTD under the local Department of Education and Culture.
