International Motocross Grand Prix 2017 on Bangka Island

 

The world’s top motocross riders will showcase their exceptional skills in the fierce competition of the most prestigious motocross race series Motocross Grand Prix (MXGP) 2017 that is scheduled to take place on 4th to 5th March 2017 in the town of Pangkalpinang, on Bangka Island, in the Bangka Belitung Province.

Indonesia is the only country in Asia to host the Motocross Grand Prix series this year and will continue to host the series until 2019. No less than 140 top crossers from 27 countries will be competing in this Pangkalpinang Series including Roman Febure, Eugeny Bobryshev, Arnanud Tonus, Ken de Dycker, Maximilian Nagl, Jose Butron, Gautier Paulin, Shaun Simpson, Arminas Jasinkos, Jaap Corneth, Valentin Guilod, Tim Gajser, Glen Coldenhoff, RuiGoncalves, and many more.

The race will also see the competition among the world’s top motocross teams such as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing, Team Suzuki World MXGP, Team HRC, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team, Scandinavian Racing Sports, and more.

As the world’s premier championship of motocross racing series, MXGP is sanctioned by Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) which represents 111 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six regional continental unions.

Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, Arief Yahya commented that through this event the world will grow more aware of the Wonderful Indonesia brand since it will be broadcast to over 1 million viewers worldwide. “This is a prestigious event. The race is broadcast to 120 countries with viewers ranging to 1 million in every season, making it the perfect media to spread the news about the wonders of Indonesia to the rest of the world,” said Minister Arief Yahya.

Minister Yahya added that spectators who will be watching the event travel from many countries to Pangkalpinang. They will not only be presented with exciting actions in the MXGP but they can also enjoy the captivating natural beauty, unique cultural traditions, as well as the culinary richness of Bangka Belitung Province.

Located on the eastern coast of Bangka Island, Pangkalpinang is the island’s largest city and capital of the Province of Bangka-Belitung Islands. Aside from its role as the center of the provincial government, economic, and commercial activities, Pangkalpinang serves as gateway for visitors who wish to explore the enchanting beauty of Bangka and Belitung Islands.

Long known as the center of the tin mining industry, in its heydays Bangka produced some of the best tin ore and tin handicrafts. The tin mining industry drew Chinese workers and their descendants to the island, who brought their culture to take root in Bangka, thereby decorating the city of Pangkalpinang with visible Chinese nuances in its architecture and rituals. Pangkalpinang also boasts pristine beaches, such as the Pasir Padi Beach which offers white sand beach and clear blue ocean waters. The beach is also a perfect site to watch the sun rise in the morning.

While Tanjung Bunga Beach offers beautiful scenery of a flat beach decorated with huge granite rock formations. From Jakarta, there are daily flights from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Depati Amir Airport in Pangkalpinang. The city is also accessible from Palembang, capital of South Sumatra Province via daily flights.
