There will also be an Umbrella Painting Workshop, talk show and reflections, a World Culture Forum, and more. “The festival will bring together umbrella's creative industry stakeholders, carnival artists, and traditional umbrella art preservation communities. We thank the Ministry of Tourism for their continuous support for the event.”, said the head of the organizing committee, Heru Mataya.

Heru also explained that the committee has made all necessary preparations including inviting umbrella artisans from different parts of the country and promoting the event at the Car Free Day activities in Solo. Along with the umbrella art, the event will highlight the batik art from many parts of Indonesia.  Solo lies at the heart of the royal Batik art.

Umbrella decorations have always been an inseparable part of the events held by the Ministry of Tourism. The Asian-African Conference Commemoration 2015 in Bandung, for example, the Solo Umbrella Festival 2015, Manado Culinary Festival 2016, Kartini Day Commemoration 2016 in Jakarta, and other events have all featured colorful and uniquely designed umbrellas. Moreover, during the Indonesia Street Festival held recently in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the mall’s corridors were also decorated with colorful umbrellas.

“Umbrellas are indeed a unique creation that needs a true artistic touch” commented Rizki Handayani, Assistant Deputy forInternational Market Development for the ASEAN region in the Ministry of Tourism.
