Bali Officially Opens, Menparekraf Emphasizes Importance of Foreign Tourists’ Health as Main Requirement

PRESS RELEASE

MINISTRY OF TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY/TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY AGENCY

Garut, October 18th 2021 - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, emphasizes that with the official opening of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali for international travel on October 14, 2021, the health of foreign tourists becomes the main requirement for traveling to Indonesia.

During the weekly press briefing carried out virtually from the Ciburial Tourism Village, Garut, West Java, Monday (18/10/2021), Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno explained, health and safety of both foreign tourists and Indonesian people is an absolute thing to be implemented, because the COVID-19 pandemic is currently still occurring. Thus, health protocols must be undertaken strictly and with discipline, including the end-to-end process when tourists travel to Indonesia.

“A number of requirements must be met by foreign tourists to travel to Bali, in order to maintain public health and safety, especially because there is still a threat of a wave of the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno.

In addition, Menparekraf explained, there is health insurance burdening foreign tourists to come to Bali which value reaches IDR 1 billion.

“This value is the maximum insurance coverage value, not the premium paid by foreign tourists. The government has set two health insurance premiums for foreign tourists, namely, health insurance with a premium of IDR 800 thousand and IDR 1 million. This premium has a maximum coverage value of IDR 1.6 - IDR 2 billion with a validity period of 30 - 60 days. So, if foreign tourists do not have insurance in their country of origin, they can buy insurance when they arrive in Indonesia,” he added.

Menparekraf also explained that regular flights from 19 countries are still quiet at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, possibly because foreign tourists require more time to prepare various travel documents.

“For charter flights, there have been direct communication with us from Russia and Ukraine. Then, related to live on board (LOB) for 5 days, we have coordinated with the association, tourists do not have any objection to that. However, we are currently continuing to coordinate to ensure this,” Menparekraf continued.

The MOTCE also promotes the opening of Bali to foreign tourists through cooperation with the Travel Bureau in 19 countries. In addition, promotions are also carried out through own media and representatives of Indonesia in these countries.

“Regarding quarantine hotels that can accept regular guests, this is allowed accompanied by a number of conditions. One of them, the hotel has a monitoring system and good flow, so that quarantine and non-quarantine tourists are not in the same area. Activities for quarantined tourists and regular hotel guests must also be separated, the hotel consists of several buildings (wings). The MOTCE’s team has also had the opportunity to observe quarantine hotels, related to their readiness to welcome foreign tourists and the supervision undertaken during the quarantine period at the hotels,” Menparekraf Sandiaga explained.
