Benteng Penyengat

The remnants of the Penyengat Fortress represent the crucial defensive role that Penyengat Island played during the era of the Riau-Lingga Sultanate, particularly in warding off potential threats and attacks. Built primarily from stone and coral, the fortifications once formed a strategic defense system around the island, utilizing its topography to full advantage. Today, sections of the walls, cannon placements, and observation posts can still be traced, providing historical evidence of the military engineering and commitment to sovereignty demonstrated by the sultans.
