G20 Inspired Destinations for Your Year End Holiday in Bali

A worldwide-level state meeting, The G20 Summit will be held on 15-16 November 2022 with Bali as the official host. There have been many series of events in welcoming this historical moment, including where the delegates are invited to some internationally acclaimed destinations and excitements. Surely, doing a retrospective trip to those places to celebrate New Year in Bali is going to be an adventure worth experiencing. Here are some of the G20-related Bali holiday destinations for you.

1. Garuda Wisnu Kencana

Designed to be the biggest statue in Indonesia by Nyoman Nuarta, this 122-meter tall monument is located in the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park. This statue is inspired by a Hindu legend about Garuda's search for Amrita, the elixir of life. In the legend, Garuda agreed to be ridden by Vishnu in return for the right to use the elixir to liberate his enslaved mother.

Located about 10–15 minutes drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport, it is no wonder that the 60-hectares wide GWK Cultural Park is chosen to be the venue for the gala dinner of G20 Summit. Its main outdoor plaza, named Lotus Pond, stretches between limestone walls, has good access and incredible acoustics, and can hold up to 7,500 people. You can visit this place after the celebration of G20 Summit 2022 to admire the stunning statue and the surroundings. It can also be a perfect year end holiday recommendation because there are many tourist attractions in the venue such as Kecak Dance Performance at sunset in the Amphitheater, Joged Bumbung at the Street Theatre, and others.

2. Tahura

Taman Hutan Raya (Forest Park) or abbreviated as Tahura is located only 6 kilometers away from the Ngurah Rai International Airport, precisely on Pura Luhur Temple Narmada Tanah Kilap which is within the Pemogan Village area. This location is chosen to be the venue for a mangrove preservation showcase to G20 delegates. That is because the variety of flora and fauna that dwell within the biodiversity of the Forest Park consist of mangrove, various types of birds, and aquatic animals.

There are approximately 33 types of mangrove plants, most of which are white pidada (Soneratia alba), white mangroves (Rhizophora apiculata), and tancang (Bruguiera gymnorhyza). Thousands of mangrove plants in Tahura Ngurah Rai thrive and unite to become the best defense fort for the southern coast of this island. You can also visit this attraction if you’re planning to spend your New Year in Bali.

3. Jatiluwih

Famously known for its rice terrace and traditional irrigation features or subak, Jatiluwih is a tourist village that presents tranquility and relaxation for everyone who visits. It’s relatively close to Mount Batukaru and can be reached for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from the city of Denpasar.

Here, the Indonesian Agriculture Minister invites the G20 delegates of the Agriculture Ministers Meeting (AMM) to introduce them to the sustainable agricultural practices to face extreme climate change challenges in the future. This is because Jatiluwih has been named a world-class agrotourism object and recognized as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. If you’re looking for a peaceful New Year in Bali, this is the right place for you.

4. Penglipuran Village

Not only recognized as one of three cleanest villages in the world, Penglipuran Village is also special because it has a distinctive cultural wisdom called karang memadu, which strictly prohibits polygamy. Therefore, the G20 Delegates of Women Empowerment Ministers Meeting (WEMM) are invited to visit the villages to learn more about how the community strives to protect the dignity of women.

Located near Kintamani and set along a serene countryside, the village of Penglipuran is a well-preserved traditional village composed of brick road and lined with rows of distinctive traditional houses. The bamboo architectures dominate this village. In fact, almost everything here is made from the plants; kitchens, majestic gates and doorways, furniture, roofs, as well as the gates. Visit this village if you’re searching for uniqueness and traditional philosophy to make your year-end holiday in Bali more meaningful.

5. Phinisi Sea Safari

As the organizer of The 2nd Tourism Working Group for the G20 Presidency 2022, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia entertained all participating delegates in a welcoming sunset dinner which was held aboard the phinisi vessel by the Sea Safari Cruise.

Through a cruise service provided by Sea Safari, you can also experience one of the most stunning nautical adventures in Indonesia: a voyage of sunset aboard the traditional ship which is the pride of Bugis community in South Sulawesi. There are four phinisi vessels you can try from Sea Safari VI, Sea Safari VII, Sea Safari 8, to Cheng Ho, with each of them giving unique experiences that will make your holiday worth the journey.
