When Bali is being mentioned as a holiday suggestion, most people will instantly think about the lively beaches in Sanur, the glamorous nightlife at Seminyak, the lush and peaceful Ubud, or the luxury in Nusa Dua. Not many people know that the northern area of Bali also dwells many hidden gems that are worth discovering.
Since Indonesia has reopened Bali for international travelers, you might need to plan for your future trip to the Island of the Gods. If you are interested in exploring North Bali, here are some of our recommendations for you.
Located approximately 2-hour drive from Denpasar, Lovina Beach is a coastal area on the northwestern side of Bali that is perfect for those who love to snorkel and sightsee the underwater scenery. This beach has recently become more popular with tourists but nevertheless still remains less crowded than the island's southern side.
On its lovely black sand beaches, aside from a leisurely on-feet exploration and swimming peacefully, you can also conduct a dolphin watching tour. Compared to the beaches around southern Bali, Lovina Beach has frequent sightings of dolphin pods due to the calm waters. There will be many boats with seats up to five or six that are ready to set sail and serve you for a dolphin watching journey in Lovina Beach. You can just jump aboard and enjoy the lovely sight!
Beaches, forests, and rice terraces are not the only natural attractions in Bali. There are also stunning waterfalls lying in the landscape of Tabanan Regency. Hunt for the stunning sights and capture every corner with your lens to achieve an extraordinary look on your Instagram. We are recommending 4 waterfalls you should never miss, namely Sing Sing Angin, Blahmantung, Pengempu, and Leke Leke.
Sing Sing Angin Waterfall is located in Manikyang Village at the center of Tabanan. It might just be a humble waterfall that is not really tall, but it is undeniably charming in every way. If you’re looking for a more secluded spot, head to Blahmantung Waterfall in Pujungan Village on the southwestern side of Tabanan. Not only you will be greeted by a 25-meter high waterfall, you can also find 2 other similar waterfalls from this spot that are no less exhilarating.
Another serene waterfall spot in Tabanan is Pengempu Waterfall in Cau Belayu Village. The atmosphere and the calming sound of the waterfall will definitely bring your mind in ease. Last but not least is the hidden Leke Leke Waterfall in Antapan Village. The waterfall is short and narrow, making it quite a unique sight to see, but still guaranteed to blow your mind away.
As the proverb says, “the early bird gets the worm”. Wake up early from your stay and make your way to the summit of Mount Batur for a sunrise view that will change your life forever. There are many travel agents/tour operators that offer interesting packages for this trip, so find one that suits your needs well. Mount Batur is only a 2-hour drive from Denpasar, so whether you want to find a nearby place to stay or leave directly from your hotel in the southern part of Bali, it’s up to you.
It might not be as crowded and lively as the beaches in the southern part of Bali, but it surely has its own charm, especially for those who fancy diving and snorkeling. A lot of dive operators have set up their base here due to its undisturbed coral reefs. There are also many accommodation options ranging from simple homestays to luxury resorts.
Overall, Amed Beach offers a laid-back atmosphere that is perfect for all occasions. However, since it has a quiet and peaceful vibe, we suggest you go here for a honeymoon or long stay retreat.
Aside from Garuda Wisnu Kencana, Ulun Danu Bratan Temple in Bedugul area is also known as Bali’s tourism icon. The name “Ulun Danu” means lakeside, while “Bratan” is the name of the lake where the temple is situated. The lake is located in a highland approximately 1,200 meters above sea level. You will be welcomed by an exhilarating view and cool breeze when you get here.
There is also another Ulun Danu Temple in the tourism area of Kintamani named Ulun Danu Batur. It is considered as one of the most important temples in Bali which functions as the keeper of harmony and stability in Bali. The view up there is also mesmerizing and you should check it out, too!
Have you ever seen people posting their picture in front of a huge, majestic gate when they are on a trip in Bali? The gate that you saw is most likely the iconic Handara Gate, which is located in Handara Golf & Resort Area in Buleleng Regency.
You can have a complete luxury experience in Handara Golf & Resort, but if not, you can always choose to just take pictures in front of the gate just like many other people. It will still be a holiday experience worth having. Plus, you get a good photo for your holiday collection!
