Hello, Sobat Pesona (Tourism Enthusiasts)! When you hear the song "Yogyakarta" by KLa Project, it surely makes you long for a holiday in Yogyakarta, right?

Speaking of Yogyakarta, this city isn’t just about Pasar Beringharjo or the Yogyakarta Palace (Keraton). In fact, this city, known as both a tourism hub and a student city, offers a wide variety of exciting events to check out.

So, for those of you planning a trip to Yogyakarta soon, why not also stop by the ARTJOG 2024 art exhibition? Curious about what interesting things will take place during the event? Let’s take a quick look below!

1. ARTJOG as a Barometer of Contemporary Art in Indonesia

Source: bob.kemenparekraf.go.id

First held in 2008, ARTJOG—originally called Jogja Art Fair and a part of the FKY (Yogyakarta Art Festival)—has become one of the most anticipated contemporary art exhibitions for art enthusiasts. Over time, in 2010, the name ARTJOG was adopted and has been used ever since.

ARTJOG is widely regarded as a barometer for contemporary art in Indonesia, and this perception is well-deserved. Each year, the event showcases artists from a variety of disciplines, featuring artworks ranging from two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces to performance art and installation art.

ARTJOG is known as a well-organized event, offering curatorial tours, artist meet-and-greets, art performances, and historical tours of ASRI (the Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts) when the event is held at the Jogja National Museum.

Behind the success of the annual ARTJOG event, there is a key figure who plays a central role. Yup, it's Heri Pemad, the founder and CEO of ARTJOG. His involvement in the art world is quite significant. Since 2004, he established Art Management, which later became PT Heri Pemad Management in 2008.

ARTJOG has attracted an increasing number of art enthusiasts each year. This year, ARTJOG is scheduled to run for 65 days, from June 28 to September 1, 2024, at the Jogja National Museum in Yogyakarta.

To get to the Jogja National Museum, you can travel by private vehicle or use public transportation. Starting from Kilometer Zero in Yogyakarta, head west on Jalan KH. Ahmad Dahlan for 1.3 km, then continue towards Pasar Serangan, and you’ll find the Jogja National Museum on the left side of the road.

2. Carrying the theme Motif: Prophecy

Collaborating with Hendro Wiyanto as the exhibition's curatorial team, ARTJOG 2024 adopts the theme Motif: Prophecy. This theme references Indonesian culture, rich with various forms of prophecy, such as traditional predictions, poetry, chants, teachings, and more.

The theme also aims to invite artists to connect with the past and integrate it into future prophecies, which are always full of possibilities. At the ARTJOG 2024 exhibition, visitors will experience a variety of artworks from 47 of the finest artists, both from Indonesia and abroad.

3. Offering a Variety of Exciting Programs for Visitors

To provide diverse, high-quality entertainment for visitors, ARTJOG has collaborated with various organizations, including the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (MACAN) Foundation, the Yogyakarta Cultural Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) of Indonesia.

This year, ARTJOG 2024 once again presents exciting programs such as the Young Artist Award (an appreciation program for young artists under 33 years old, ongoing since ARTJOG 2013), ARTJOG Kids (a platform for children's art and activities), performa•ARTJOG, Exhibition Tour, Meet the Artist, Artcare, and Jogja Art Weeks.

4. Tickets Are Available on the Official ARTJOG Website

Presale tickets for the ARTJOG 2024 event are available from June 3–15, 2024. The ticket price is quite affordable at only Rp50,000 per person. If you're interested in purchasing tickets, you can go directly to the website at artjog.id!
