This August, the lovely hill town of Tomohon near Manado in North Sulawesi Province, will be covered with an array of flowers in a variety of colors that open into full bloom when the Tomohon International Flower Festival gets underway on August 8th to 10th, 2018.

Together with participants from across Indonesia, floats from 2 European countries and 1 Asian have already confirmed joining this year’s Tomohon International Flower Festival. These are: The Czech Republic, Georgia, and Japan. Moreover, members of the Council of Asian Flower Exhibition (CAFE) will also make their presence felt at this gorgeous flower festival.

As main highlight of the festival, the Tournament of Flowers (or Flower Parade) and the Flower Fashion Carnival will pass the main streets at the heart of Tomohon on August 8th 2018. The parade will display resplendent decorated and aromatic floats presented by the districts of North Sulawesi, large corporations and participating provinces from across Indonesia, as well as other participating countries. A Tourism, Trade, Investment, and Floriculture Expo, and The Archipelago Art and Cultural Performances will also be held at the Babe Palar Stadium from August 7th to the 12th, 2018 that are sure to attract thousands.

Tomohon is a picturesque, cool town lying at the foot of two huge mountains, Mt. Lokon and Mt. Mahawe, situated only one hour's drive from Manado, capital and gateway to North Sulawesi. Its main produce are flowers, from bright yellow and white chrysanthemums to red and purple dahlias, wistful lilies and other bright and colorful flowers that are planted not only in large plots but also in gardens along the main roads. When in full bloom they decorate the entire town.

Tomohon is also surrounded by countless natural wonders since it lies protected by numerous green mountains such as Mt. Lokon, Empung, Tatawiran, Mahawu, Tampusu, Masarang, and Kasuratan. Here are also peaceful and serene lakes to stroll around, like Lake Tampusu, Lake Linow, Lake Pangolombian, Lake Sineleyan, Lake Panunuzaean, Lake Linow Oki, and Lake Kasewean. While for those longing to hear the refreshing rush of of invigorating waterfalls, should go to Tapahan Ronokrok, Tumimperas, Regesan, Ranowawa, Tekaan Telu, Kanderawatu, and Kinapesutan.

Fully supported by the Ministry of Tourism, the Tomohon International Flower Festival 2018 has set itself the target of 200,000 people to attend and watch this exclusive parade, comprising 20,000 international tourists and 180,000 domestic visitors. “The Tomohon International Flower Festival has reached its 8th year. The number of participants is growing continuously year by the year and we project that there will be even more international visitors this year. Moreover, international participants have already confirmed their presence” said Minister of Tourism, Aief Yahya at the launch of the Tomohon International Flower Festival 2018 at the Sapta Pesona Bulding, Office of the Ministry of Tourism, on Monday, July 9th, 2018.

Manado and its attractions have recently grown into a most popular destination for tourists not only from Europe but also from China and Korea.
