The Pacitan Ronthek Festival originated from the traditional ronda sahur—a Ramadan custom of waking the community for their pre-dawn meal using bamboo percussion instruments known as rontek. What began as a simple tradition has evolved into a major annual cultural celebration. Today, the festival has transformed into a sophisticated traditional music showcase, seamlessly blending the rhythmic beats of rontek with the melodic strains of the gamelan, intricate dance performances, and theatrical musical displays.
This year, the festival returns with even more vibrance, featuring a Creative Economy and MSME Expo. It now welcomes broader participation from the general public, art communities, and cultural studios from various regions.
