History of the Museum

Cemara 6 Galeri was established on 27 November 1993 by Toeti Heraty as an art gallery space to house modern Indonesian paintings and support artistic discourse.

Located in the historic Menteng district of Jakarta, the museum’s collection includes works by more than 60 prominent Indonesian artists such as Basoeki Abdullah, S. Sudjojono, Srihadi Soedarsono, Popo Iskandar, Affandi, and Mochtar Apin.

A special section of the museum is dedicated to the works of Salim, an Indonesian painter who spent much of his life in Paris.

Over time, the museum evolved into a dynamic cultural venue blending artistic exhibitions with intellectual and philosophical engagement, reflecting the diverse interests of its founder.
